I Think Life's Tough, But Possible
Almost anyone has read or will read (or at least start) a book with a unbelievably perfect hero who does all the right things for the right reason. The hero is usually extremely wise (or at least the narrator says so). However, there is that rare book that creates this perfect hero successfully. Usually, this hero is more of a perfect person than a perfect superhero. In other words, he is a hero because of his wisdom, understanding, and love. And because the author develops the character so well and makes him so real, we inevitably come to love this character and read the book just to watch what he does in each situation.
Everybody wishes for someone like this to exist and we try hard to find one. So, we like to think that since the author understands people enough to create this perfect person, wouldn't he/she sort of resemble this person? Again, we like to think so. However, this isn't always the case. Just like beauty, there is always ugliness in everything. Sometimes it's well hidden, but it's there. In one case, I read a book that I absolutely loved only because of the main character. I thought that the author must be just like the main character of the book. He must be the "sees the good in everything and everyone" kind of person. However, and to my dismay, I read some of the author's criticisms of other works and saw that he/she was extremely biased and rude. It shocked me. He/she was closer to the all-too-common "annoying side character that should have been left out" than to the hero. I wondered how it could be possible that a book with such pure themes could be written by someone who acts as though he/she doesn't even agree with them? Obviously there's a misunderstanding somewhere on my part because the author did write the book. However, the point still stands.
However, I do believe that there are noble people in this world. They may be few and far between, but they exist, and I won't stop imagining that perfect person, because it creates a perfect role model for me. Of course nobody's perfect, but that's what makes that person so wonderful. They are human and they know it, but the beauty is that they understand themselves and therefore everyone around them. They can't hate. This is state we all should strive for. It's not only the achievement that makes people noble, it's the effort.
